Local Businesses Honored with Prestigious Awards and Special Lifetime Achievement Recognition, Prince George’s Chamber of Commerce to Celebrate 100 Years

Actor, Educator, Activist, and Entrepreneur Lamann Rucker Announced as Master of Ceremonies

Lanham, MD, September 30, 2024 — In celebrating excellence in the business community, the Prince George’s Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce the recipients of eight distinguished awards, honoring outstanding leadership and success in the business community. The Excellence in Business Awards Gala will bring together community leaders, business executives, elected officials, corporate/nonprofit professionals, and esteemed guests to honor Prince George’s Chamber of Commerce’s century of dedication and achievement.

The awards will be presented during a special gala at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center on Saturday, October 5, 2024. Since its founding in 1924, the Prince George’s Chamber of Commerce has played a pivotal role in supporting local businesses, advocating for economic development, and fostering a vibrant community. Confirmed special guests include Congressman Steny Hoyer, County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, Comptroller of Maryland Brooke Lierman, and Maryland State Treasurer Dereck E. Davis.

 

Adding to the evening’s excitement, we are thrilled to announce that Lamman Rucker, actor, educator, activist, and entrepreneur, will emcee the event. Rucker is the Associate Producer and Leading Man of an all-star cast in the NAACP IMAGE AWARD nominated hit new BET series, The Black Hamptons, where he portrays wealthy tech genius and inventor, ‘Anthony Johnson.’ Before, he had a successful role as ‘Jacob Greenleaf’ in Oprah Winfrey’s groundbreaking debut drama series, Greenleaf, on the OWN Network.

 

This year’s awards recognize businesses and entrepreneurs who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment to their communities. Recipients include:

  • Business Leader of the Year: Steve Proctor Jr., President & CEO/G.S. Proctor & Associates, Inc.
  • Small Business of the Year: Prince George’s Suite Magazine
  • Community Impact Business of the Year: Housing Initiative Partnerships, Inc. (HIP)
  • Mirinda Jackson Minority Business of the Year: Eronica Dew, Founder & CEO/BES Solutions
  • Emerging Business of the Year: Blink Charging
  • Corporate Citizenship Award: Truist Foundation
  • Economic Transformation Team of the Year: Distinguished Members of the Maryland Delegation

In addition to these prestigious awards, The Prince George’s Chamber of Commerce is proud to present a special David C. Harrington Lifetime Achievement Award to Kenneth Michael, Chairman, NAI Michael. This honor recognizes an individual whose remarkable contributions and unwavering dedication have significantly impacted the business landscape, inspired future generations of leaders, and embodied the spirit of David C. Harrington (1954-2022), former longtime President and CEO of the Prince George’s Chamber of Commerce.

Since its founding in 1924, the Prince George’s Chamber of Commerce has played a pivotal role in supporting local businesses, advocating for economic development, and fostering a vibrant community. The gala will feature a prestigious awards ceremony recognizing outstanding businesses and individuals who have significantly impacted our community. Special awards will be presented to honor achievements in various categories, showcasing the innovation and resilience of our local economy.

The Walker Redds Project will provide live entertainment, combining. a unique blend of jazz, Afro Beats, R&B, and GoGo music. The band is well known for creating a one-of-a-kind musical experience that will leave attendees wanting more.
